THE DO’S AND DON’TS IN BUYING BABY CLOTHES

During the months that lead up to the birth of your baby, you may have gone overboard with buying new things for your little one. While this excitement is totally normal, especially for first-time parents, it is vital that you buy clothes that will not harm your new bundle of joy.

Since babies will be unable to do anything for themselves, especially for the first few months of life, making sure that they are always comfortable and safe is paramount. Buying clothes for babies is not the same as buying clothes for adults or even older children. Babies are unable to tell their parents and caretakers if they are uncomfortable. This is why making the decision as to which clothes to buy is essential. This blog post will focus on how to choose the best baby clothes for your little babe.

If it is your first time to give this serious thought, here is a short list of dos and don’ts that can help you get the right clothes for the newest member of your family.

DO:

These are the points you need to remember when buying new baby clothes and garments.

1 - Do Buy Snap or Zipper Onesies

Babies go through at least three to four diapers per day. Buying onesies with snaps or zipper closures instead of buttons will make it easier for diaper changes.

2 - Do Look Out for Clothing That Has Small Neck Openings

Buying shirts and garments that have wide neck openings or ones that have buttons or snaps to widen the openings further will ensure that you will be able to get the clothes on your baby with relative ease and speed.

3 - Do Ask About the Material of the Clothes

Be sure to look into the fabric that was used for the clothing. Babies, and especially newborns, have very sensitive skin. There are many synthetic materials that may do a number on your baby’s skin causing rashes, irritation, and discomfort. Buying all-natural baby clothes is a better option.

DON’T:

On the other hand, here are some tips on things you should avoid when shopping for baby clothes.

1 - Don’t Go Overboard with Newborn Sized Clothes

Rather than stocking up on newborn (NB) sizes, opt for size 0-3 months. Babies tend to grow very quickly, and the average time a newborn will actually be wearing the newborn size is about 3 weeks or less. Instead, buy more 0-3 month size clothes to get a little longer wear.

2 - Don’t Go for Clothes with Choking Hazards

Clothes that have drawstrings, bows, buttons, and beads may turn into choking hazards for babies, especially if they are left unattended. Any and all decorations should be firmly attached to the garment, or avoid these types of clothes to be safe.

3 - Don’t Buy Clothes with Glitter and Sequins

The same goes for clothes that have glitter or sequins. These small decorative details may make their way into your baby’s eyes or mouth, which can cause all sorts of problems.

Conclusion:

Your baby deserves only the best. This is why it pays to look into the clothes you buy for them. Remember that some types of clothing may cause more harm than good. It is always a good rule of thumb to choose comfort over style when it comes to buying new clothes for your little one. After considering the factors above, we hope some of the tips and reminders will be helpful for choosing the ideal clothing best suited for your baby.
